David Oyelowo and Lupita Nyong’o at the “Gringo” World Premiere

Posted on March 07, 2018

On this day, like on so many others when our awards season coverage comes to an end, T & Lo experience their customary post-Oscars moment of panic. “We’ve relied so long on all those desperate, poledancing Oscar wannahaves for so long! Who ever shall we turn to now th– OH THANK GOD LUPITA AND DAVID ARE HERE.”

That’ll do nicely.

David Oyelowo

David is here to remind us all that before there was Chadwick rocking the bold and unconventional menswear on the red carpet, there was David, who’s been doing this sort of thing for a while now. We absolutely LOVE this jacket. What a beautiful textile. How fun to see a man on the red carpet in shades of lavender and orange right alongside the usual business-like blue. Love the length, the play of the different collars, and of course, his ever-present tassled loafers. He has such a unique style, but it’s always so well-expressed. And his grooming is beautiful. That seems an odd thing to say, but look at the closeup on his face, how impeccable the beard, hair and brows are. It helps that he has one of the most symmetrical male faces we think we’ve ever seen.

What? We’re not weird. We just like staring at his face for long periods of time. Like you don’t? Please. We see you.

Lupita Nyong’o in Dolce&Gabbana

Love the hair and love the shoes, but we aren’t feeling this dress for her at all. From a style perspective, we don’t think the heavy corseting motif is her kind of thing. She’s allowed a so-so choice after the month of intense style she’s had.

It doesn’t matter much, anyway. She’s not even in this movie. She’s actually just here to walk the red carpet with her good friend on his big night. Miss Lady knows she’s got a white-hot spotlight on her at the moment and she also knows any time she walks a red carpet, the press goes nuts. What a sweet thing to do for him.

We used to go back and forth on her use of bold blue eye makeup, but we really love it now.

Never even heard of this one, but that’s a hell of a cast for what looks like a silly drug comedy.
