David and Lupita kind of sucked all the light off everyone else on this red carpet, but three more of Gringo’s stars came out in some surprisingly strong looks. We don’t mean that in a dismissive way; just that the week following the Oscars is usually a time when most celebrities fail to make much effort on the red carpet front.

Which is not to say that we love – or even like – this. It’s awful and it makes us cringe a little. Look, she can make her own choices and for all we know, she is feeling the shit out of this look, but it’s such a stale cliche. Hair and makeup are very pretty, and she sure looks like she’s loving her look, but we just can’t with that negligee she’s got on.
It’s like he’s begging to be cast in the inevitable Glen Campbell biopic. Fine by us, but let’s limit the earth-toned velvets mixed with denim, Joel.
This all feels weirdly forced somehow. You go to the trouble of picking a velvet suit in a bold color, but you pair it with a denim shirt and a visible undershirt?

And finally there’s Miss Charlize, who knows damn good and well who she is and what works for her, keeping things simple in her signature color of late. There’ve been a lot of ladytuxes on the red carpets in the past year, but we love this one for being so simple and basic; like a cross between a Hillary pantsuit and a tux. Love the sheer shirt and the fun touch of the gold shoes. Finally, someone got that accent right. The hair and earrings are fab and polished; just right for a tux.
Now, we think her face looks pretty, but we could see the argument that it might be a bit too much slap for her. Discuss amongst yourselves.
