Miss Caitriona tried out some new fringe for size, as well as a couple of oddly shaped ensembles, as she made her way through BAFTAs weekend.

This is kind of lovely. The scale of the embroidery and the black background give the dress a darkly romantic feel without being too dramatic about it, which goes nicely with the unfussy, sensible-but-cute hair. Still, there’s a bit of volume in the bodice, especially up near the one shoulder, to make the look feel slightly askew. The irregular seaming on the skirt ruffle only accentuates that off-kilter feel.

Call us crazy, but we love the shape of the pants, especially when paired with those shoes. It’s really the top that lets this look down. Given the exuberance of the lower half, she didn’t need a top with any tricky details, like that gather at the collar, which only distracts.

We’ve never been fans of the my-dress-is-falling-off dress, but it’s made even odder with the addition of a “Time’s Up” pin. Not that any woman can’t wear a sexy dress and uphold the message of the movement, but these dresses are designed to look deliberately disheveled, and even to hint at an act of aggression. It’s a weird style to pair with a message about sexual harassment, but then again, it’s a weird dress, period.
