2018 BAFTA Awards Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on February 20, 2018

Time to put all these black-clad Brits, Brit-adjacents, wannabe Brits, and honorary Brits to bed, don’t you think, darlings? They’ve been waiting so long for our judgment, we feel it’s well past time we give it to them. Put on your judging pants.

Andrea Risenborough in Elie Saab Couture

This is really lovely. The little bursts of purple are fun and elevate the look from being too standard. The neckline works beautifully with her hair.

Annette Bening in Fabiana Milazzo

No matter what Aunt Annette wears, she always looks like a pottery class teacher out on the town, bless her heart.

Daniel Kaluuya in Burberry

That’ll do nicely.

Emma Roberts in Schiaparelli Couture

That is some serious Alexis Carrington realness, which is a look for which she’s particularly well-suited. Not feeling the hem length, though. And the pumps are a bit too on-the-nose ’80s.

Greta Gerwig in Jonathan Cohen

Low-key fabulous. It’s got a celebratory feel to it. And the 1968 Goldie Hawn hair really suits her.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Vintage Cardinali

Yes, we love it. It’s weird, but she makes it look drop-dead chic.

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

Like Angelina Jolie does, we’re pretty sure Miss Helena keeps this entire look hanging on a hook by her front door with her keys and purse.

Isabelle Hupert in Armani Privé

Fabulous. For once, she doesn’t look overwhelmed by what she’s wearing. It’s just the right size and proportion for her.

Karen Gillan in Vera Wang

That unresolved neckline is terrible. So terrible that we’re even willing to forgive the hi-lo skirt, which is a thing we wouldn’t normally do.

Kate Mara in Christian Dior Couture

Pretty fabulous in a gilded, Beaux Arts kind of way, but the bodice looks like it’s barely hanging on.

Kristin Scott Thomas in Christian Dior Couture

The white is dramatic, but this still comes off a little bathrobe-y.

Lily James in Burberry

It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it’s dramatic, the fit is pretty great, and the waist embellishment is just the right touch. And the earrings are to-die, of course. We’d say she nailed it.

Naomie Harris in Zuhair Murad Couture

Miss Naomie wanted to grab some of that Black Panther weekend red carpet Black Excellence, we see. Can’t blame her a bit, especially since she looks FLAMAZING here. Come THROUGH, Egyptian queen.

Octavia Spencer in Sachin & Babi

Can’t say we love the floaty sleeves but the skirt is beautiful.

Rebecca Ferguson in Stella McCartney

Very dramatic in a 1971 sort of way. It suits her.

Sally Hawkins in Ralph & Russo

We don’t love the top half. And we think this sort of standard “mature glam” style isn’t best for her.

Timothée Chalamet in Saint Laurent

Bravo, kid. You look amazing. You earned that smug face.
