Getting Judgy at the W Magazine “Best Performances” Party

Posted on January 05, 2018

Darlings, a gaggle of ladystars came out to soak up the spotlight and party a little before the Golden Globes wisks them all away. Yes, it’s the party for the always supremely weird W mag “Best Performances” issue, which meant that a bunch of A-listers came out to ride a little more of that career high action.

That’s a bunch of words to say “Celebrities in fashion to judge!”

Elizabeth Olsen in Brock Collection

IKEA sells these dishtowels for 99 cents a piece. We bought 25 of them a few years ago and use them as napkins for holiday dinner parties. Tie a little plaid ribbon around them and insert some faux holly berries and you’ve got a great little place-setting. Little pro-tip from these two queens.

This is not, however, an endorsement of this dress. After all, it looks like IKEA dishtowels.

Emilia Clarke in Altuzarra

As you can see, the picture-taking situation at this event was not optimal. We’re trying to take everything we see with a bad-lighting-and-terrible-angle-flavored grain of salt. Even so, this looks kind of flimsy and off-season to us.

Gal Gadot in Alexander McQueen

She’s back to form. Or at least, back to the form we sussed out a couple days back when we noted she likes simple body-con looks with one twist. It’s interesting, we guess. As sheer skirts go, we’ve seen worse. We realize that’s faint praise, but that’s just about the only kind of praise these two bitches are ever going to give a sheer skirt.

The straps kind of make it, we think. Still, like Emila’s look, it comes off a little flimsy and lightweight in the context of what everyone else is wearing.

Mary J. Blige in Balmain

Despite the sheerness – which is relatively low-key – we LOVE this look. The jacket and medallion take it somewhere a little diva-badass. Granted, that neckline’s pretty tricky, but she’s the woman who can work it.

Michelle Monaghan in Brandon Maxwell

Banana Gumby.

Tracee Ellis Ross in Balmain

Simply fierce as fuck. WERQ, mama.
