Shailene Woodley attends the HBO Golden Gloves after-party with activist Calina Lawrence.
We were fairly surprised to see Miss Shailene in this sort of style. Given the political nature of this particular red carpet, we would have thought one of the most politically active stars on it would have shown up in her typical boho-wear. Instead, she’s all high-fashion, which tends to support our idea that there was a concerted effort on the part of the attendees to still show up looking glamorous; to use the spotlight that fame AND fashion provide. We think it was a good choice. Of course we’d think that; we’re red carpet bloggers. But if #TimesUp was only about showing up looking serious as a heart attack, we think the message would have been muddled; as if to paint women as morose victims instead of celebrating them at a moment of career triumph. We’re glad they all opted to show up looking like stars. We think the point is all the more powerful because of it.
