SAG Awards 2018: Mary J. Blige Quietly Drops a Diva Bomb in Jean-Louis Sabaji

Posted on January 22, 2018

Exploding angel wing or exploding chrysanthemum? YOU make the call! As for us, we’ve decided it’s…

Flippin’ fabulous.

There are certain aspects of this look we might quibble with if the wearer was not on a red carpet and was not Mary J. Blige (the hair, the nails, the white lining, and the heavy-looking sleeve, since we know you want to know). But we’ve seen a lot of her promotional style over the last six months and we like where she takes things. She marries the drama expected of a music performer (a style expectation she mastered decades back) to the sort of stately seriousness expected of an actress on the awards track. That’s not an easy thing to do and as far as we can see, she does it on the regular. This is both head-turning and elegant at the same time.

And Miss Lady’s earring game is TO DIE FOR.
