It feels like the last year or so has been a hypersonic ride to the top for Miss Laura, who found herself attached to some of the most critically lauded or culturally important projects of the year, while serving up her usual brand of impeccably fine-tuned, slightly off-kilter performances. And with that rise came a succession of notable or striking promotional looks. She was riding fast on a career and style high.
So this kind of feels like a skidmark:
It kind of looks like one too.
Odd, because we recently noted how smart she is about picking pieces that set off and show off her tall, lanky figure. She needs – and more importantly, likes – structure and color in her fashion. But everything about this dress points down, visually. Instead of an architectural, structured feel, the effect is one of droopy drabness. The braiding is too heavy, the neckline does nothing for her, and the non-color story doesn’t photograph well. And she needs to fire whoever did that to her head.
Miss Laura, you remain our queen, which is why we’re going to pretend this never happened.
