Our first rundown of 2018, darlings! Let’s be extra bitchy in our judgment, like it’s all fresh and shit!
Allison Janney in Lela Rose
Well, we can’t be bitches here, because she looks pretty great. Loving the rich green on her. We tried really hard to come up with some sort of technical or constructive critique here, but there’s nothing to be changed or improved upon. Miss Lady nailed it.
A little boring, but well-rendered.
Holly Hunter in Christian Siriano
It’s pretty much her signature look. She could definitely use a bit of a shaking up on the style front. There’s nothing wrong with this style or look, but it’s been her default for decades.
Jessica Chastain in Givenchy
Horrible. Sorry, Jess. You can work a lot of classic stuff, but this is too dowdy to be fab.
Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon (in Roland Mouret)
Love her dress, love his jacket, not really feeling her shoes. They’re kind of fabulous, but they don’t really go with the dress, do they?
Laurie Metcalf in Christian Siriano
We question the shoes and the dress itself is OVERWHELMINGLY “Star Trek” in style, but it’s quirky and dramatic. She certainly can’t be confused with anyone else. A direction like this isn’t bad for her and can be improved upon in time for the Oscars. If we had to suggest an improvement here, it would be toward a darker, richer color story. This one’s way too “cruise line.”
Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji
We’re terribly over black lace dresses on the red carpet, but this one is particularly lovely.
Sally Hawkins in Christian Dior
This one, not so much.
