We’re starting to feel the need to be smug a little. Granted, it’s a constant impulse with us, but for once, we have a reason. Throughout Miss Laurie’s navigation (and subsequent ongoing education) of the modern awards season red carpet, we’ve supported her desire to wear relatively plain dresses, since we think they suit her and they make a good blank canvas upon which to build a strong, unfussy look for her. The one thing we’ve implored her to do is start picking pendants, since they’re the perfect statement jewelry for a plain dress and they’re relatively easy to wear (as opposed to, say, chandelier earrings, bangles, or cocktail rings, which a lot of women find too much trouble or too annoying to deal with).
Why be smug about that? Because here comes Miss Laurie, perfectly embodying our points:
Would a big, fabulous pendant not have completed this look fabulously?
Granted, the dress may be a bit too baptismal in tone, if you ignore the massive plunging neckline. But like we said, plain-to-the-point-of-austere dresses actually really suit her. It’s hard to defend the illusion netting, so we won’t. But one focus-pulling accessory could make this look and with a neckline like that, which one to pick seems a no-brainer to us.
Laurie: PENDANTS. Look into them, please.
