Miss Taraji, our love for you is boundless and we’ll always salute a gal willing to go bold for a red carpet, but we’re afraid the finishing details on this look have failed it.
That is an absolutely gorgeous gown. The colors alone make it worthwhile, if only because you so rarely see hues this bold and in this combination on the red carpet. It’s a real head-turner of a look. But here’s what: The situation at the bust needs to be resolved better. Personally, we’re fine with a little sheer nip on the RC, so long as it’s a deliberate choice. We don’t necessarily think this absolutely had to be lined or she had to wear a bra, but the way the shirring is all gathered around the nipples, effectively highlighting them while apparently attempting to cover them, is really distracting. Granted, the effect on the runway is so drastically different you could argue that the design fails to take into account a wearer who isn’t model-shaped, but even so. Once this was tried on, a solution to the bust sitch needed to be devised. It’s a shame, because the dress is so bold and colorful, but the eyes go straight to one area.
In other news, the hair is a fabulous way to set it off, but is it us (who are decidedly not experts on this sort of thing) or are the edges kind of a mess?
