Kittens, for this, our final podcast of the year, we do our best to live up to the title by spewing opinions on all things pop culture and fashion-related this week. Well, maybe not ALL things; just the parts that … spoke to us, if you will.
First, we have to bicker a bit over the engagement photos of Hollywood Harry and his couture-wearing betrothed. One of us is a bit more of a traditionalist than he wants to admit, it would seem…
Continuing that line of thought, we gave our opinions on season 2 of The Crown, focusing on the somewhat controversial decision to spend so much time on Philip, rather than Elizabeth. To our surprise, it paid off, but it also served to highlight one of the major flaws of the series.
We touch lightly on the backlash to the news that many of the actresses attending the Golden Globes plan on wearing black as a symbolic way to focus attention on the #metoo movement in Hollywood. Being red carpet tea-leaf-readers for some time now, we tend to have a different take than the critics of this move.
And finally, after a week of encountering some growing online nastiness in the fan community, Tom gives his utterly nerdy, totally spoilery review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (loved it) and tears a bit of a strip off the uglier, more politicized portion of the critical audience who mistakenly think they own their favorite characters or that directors who make movies they don’t like should be publicly vilified, fired from future projects and forced to apologize for offending them. No, they’re not a majority of the fan community and probably not even a majority of the film’s detractors, many of whom have good arguments as to its lack of quality, but they’re loud, organized and deeply unpleasant. They should be called out and Tom’s just the bitch to do it.
So if you’re in the mood for all that, plus 15 minutes on holiday baking and Lorenzo’s SHOCKINGLY UNIQUE gift-wrapping technique, go ahead and click HERE for a listen. And thank you once again for all your support all through this trainwreck of a year, kittens!
P.S. We’re aware the comments are nearly impossible to access at the moment, but we’re working on it, darlings.
