She’s Laura Dern. She’s our queen. The Queen of Quirk, you might say. Which is why this goofy-ass dress makes us smile rather than unsheathe our claws.
Let’s be clear here: it all starts falling apart as you scroll down, until you get to the wholly-wrong-for-the-look boots, which make the perfect quirky capper. She is who she is – and this strikes us as very much her style – if she were the type to naturally wear McQueen gowns from time to time. But this strikes us more as a promotional obligation she made her own. Those boots weren’t curated carefully by a style team, is what we’re trying to suggest here.
Design-wise, we really don’t like the transition from the bodice to the skirt. Then again, we’re not sure what kind of transition would have worked in its stead, since neither aspect really marries all that well with the other. Also: pink’s not really her color.
But fly that flag, queen.
