Keira Knightley at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards, Slamming You in The Face with Romance

Posted on December 04, 2017

Take a step back and brace yourself before scrolling down. Miss Keira’s about to make it rain romance all over your ass and it might be too much for anyone on a Monday morning.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you. You can practically hear the harp strings.

While we can’t say we respond all that well to this sort of style, the fact of the matter is, it’s totally hers to own and has been for as long as she’s been a household name. She wanders away from it every now and then, for which we don’t blame her, because it gets old easily, but High Romance with an 18th-Century vibe has always been her beat on the style scene. No one in the celebrity sphere can pull it off like she can. This feels like her re-planting her flag, so to speak; reminding us all of why she became a star in the first place. The bows are kind of silly, but it sure is hard to see her in any sort of rich shade of green without thinking of that Atonement gown. Maybe that’s not deliberate, but it fits with the idea that she’s making a brand statement with this whole look.

In other words, we don’t love it – and we could have spent a decent amount of time explaining why – but we respect it and can’t deny that she owns it.
