The SHOCKING part?
It’s kind of a nice, standard dress.
Sure, she looks great in it, but then again, it’s a glammed-up version of the LBD. Much like Elizabeth Bank‘s gown (or Karen Gillan‘s or Gwendoline Christie‘s or Jessica Chastain‘s or Rebel Wilson‘s), this marks a trend toward classic Hollywood Movie Goddess style on the red carpet. If she didn’t look so damn good in it, we might wonder if it was perhaps classic to the point of coming off mature. It’s a cliche to say so, but Helen Mirren would not have minded getting to this one first. But such an observation isn’t necessarily a criticism. It may not be the most youthful or edgiest of looks she’s ever worn, but it’s hard to argue with the results here.
And if there’s a new trend toward big, bouncy curls in red carpet hair, we’re all for that. Someone alert Gwyneth and give her time to prepare.
