Gwendoline Christie Brings Big Drama to the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” London Premiere

Posted on December 13, 2017

Miss Gwendoline has a preference for big, caftan-style gowns on the red carpet. It’s a bold choice, because tall or plus-sized women are often advised to stay away from them and almost no one of any size attempts for the red carpet because there are so many ways they can go wrong.

In her case, she has a real flair for them and her record is better than anyone else’s, if there were such a thing as records being kept as to who has the best caftan-wearing record. Anyway, our point (No, really. We have one.) is that while she has a knack for the caftan, her fondness for them has led to some occasional less-than-fortunate deployments for picture-taking situations. As one would expect. As we noted, it can be a tricky garment.

But she can definitely add this one to the “win” pile. Or list. Whichever method of characterizing them the International Board of Caftan-Wearing Assessments chooses to use, this one is clearly a fabulous one. We don’t much love the semi-nude color of it and the dots are probably a bit overdone as an element, but she really knows how to work it and she couldn’t have picked a better place for it. It’s bold, graphic, and dramatic – like a Star Wars movie.

It helps that her hair and makeup look really great.
