We miss the days of Mad Men, when that cast was called upon once a year to make an extended, high-fashion poledance. Christina was always good for a couple of bold, gorgeous, eye-popping looks a couple of times a year. But that’s how you dress for a red-hot, super-stylish prestige TV drama promo tour; the kind of exposure that lands you on magazine covers on the regular. A venue and project like this one asks for a lighter, less bold approach. “Serious actress drag,” if you will.
That seems about right. We think it’s a bit too much on the sober side and could’ve used … we don’t know… a bracelet or a clutch or a pair of metallic shoes. Low-key or not, it’s still a film premiere. But the dress is nice (the fit in the bust is not great, but that’s true of every loaner sent her way) and her hair and makeup look great. We think she opted for looking professional over looking glamorous and we suspect that’s where the red carpet will be trending for a while.
Ooooh, that looks positively delicious! Downton Abbey‘s Julian Fellowes directing an Agatha Christie joint with a drop-dead cast and gorgeous locations? GIVE IT TO US NOW.
Miss Christina may never get away from playing mid-20th Century characters, but when you look that good in the styles of the time, it’s best not to fight it.
