Yara Shahidi Brings Something Fresh to the American Music Awards

This is freaking FABULOUS.

Yeah, you’re going to hear from those who think knee-socks with sandals can never be fun or that shorts shouldn’t have sequins on them, but you clearly aren’t here to listen to those folks. We, for our parts, will defend our love of this ensemble because the proportions and color story are unusual and eye-catching; because the glitter and sparkle factors are high, and because she’s young and this is the AMAs red carpet, which means a little bit of next-level fashion thinking is not only welcome, it’s to be expected from certain corners.

We admit it’s a lot of look, but we think the downplayed colors, chic proportions and poise of the wearer herself are making this ensemble sing. We usually hate ripped-from-the-runway styling, but she is so the gal to work this one. It feels modern, fresh and fun. It’s not for everyone but it’s right for her and for here.
