Queen Latifah Keeps it Steady at the Alvin Ailey Theater’s Opening Night Gala Benefit

The red carpet pickings are a mite slim this week and a look like this one might’ve gotten passed over at a busier time, but despite our initial (and more or less correct) assessment that this was work-a-day, steady-as-she-goes, no-muss-no-fuss fashion in the Latifah mode…

… We’d be fools to claim it didn’t work like gangbusters.

We might quibble over a few details like the super-matchy mani and earrings. We might wish she’d occasionally break out of the rather stately and graceful style she prefers, even if it clearly pays dividends for her. But that’s the bitchy fashion bloggers in us talking. We types always want to see new and fresh things, but even in the world of red carpetry, which calls for occasional freshenings moreso than real-world style, it’s not wrong to stick with what works. The Queen has a look. Queens usually do.
