Jessica Chastain Does Sober Awards Campaign Style at the “Molly’s Game” MoMA’s Contenders Screening

Posted on November 20, 2017

Let’s take a short break from all the glitter and glamour of the American Music Awards to check in on that other style of awards season appearance: The serious, low-key “for your consideration” look, of which this is a prime example:

Girlfriend’s savvy enough to know that you don’t campaign for an Oscar in a museum, even though that’s exactly what she’s doing. In other words, she needs to show up in something high-end, with a respectable designer’s name sewn inside, but not something glamorous or something that speaks of money. A jumpsuit is a decent split-the-difference choice and the plaid helps keep it somewhat business-like and sober in tone. The whole look takes a picture and isn’t boring. Personally, given the weight of the fabric and time of year, we’d have rec’d a pair of boots for it, rather than something open-toed. And we think a black leather belt might add some interest and bump it up a little. Still, it does exactly the job it sets out to do. And as professional red carpet tea-leaf-readers, we can tell this gal’s in the game to win it. Expect Redmayne/Hathaway levels of campaigning, except we’d bet she’s smart enough not to make herself annoying or too conspicuous about it.
