Alright, girl. You got us this time. We read the words “Hailee,” “Steinfeld,” and “Mugler” in one sentence and we’re going to make some assumptions. Because those first two words indicate a distinctly rocky red carpet history and the third one indicates the potential for fashion that ranges from boldly sexy to outright gimmicky.
So imagine our surprise…
when pure fierceness stepped out on that red carpet.
While it’s true that the bustier looks both painful and gimmicky, it doesn’t overwhelm her or the look, which has an admirable balance of form and tone about it. The strong shoulders and hard-edged bustier complement each other; the soft shape of the pants and the simplicity of the shoes balance out the severity of the top half. It’s a sharp, sexy, high-fashion look. If there’s one thing we’d recommend changing, it’s the hair, although we’re honestly not sure what she should be doing there. We just don’t thing that particular style works all that well.
Still, this feels like a bit of a style graduation for her. If you can do sexy and high-fashion at the same time, you’ve managed a step forward in your evolution.
