Well, this all appears to be in order, for the most part:
She is possibly serving up a bit too much of Vanna White, circa 1992 or so, but as with Miss Carrie Underwood’s big, ruffly pageant dress, we think a certain amount of middle-of-the-road glamour and sparkle is right for this venue. Not that we’re calling this low-fashion or anything. Girlfriend’s in a custom Armani gown and that’s no joke. It’s just that, at a movie premiere or an Oscar’s ceremony or the Met Gala, we’d bitchily mark this one down as standard and move on. But it’s her brand, this basic, clean approachable glamour thing. Just as his brand is “cosmopolitan cowboy;” the kind of guy who’ll make a movie with George Clooney and make a cowboy hat and red velvet dinner jacket inexplicably work for him.
We’ve been covering country events (very much as people outside that corner of pop culture) for some time now, with our Number One complaint being that so few country stars really dress like country stars anymore. We don’t need big Loretta Lynn prairie dresses or rhinestone cowboys. What Faith and Tim and Carrie are all serving up – modern country chic – works fine.
(But that top knot? We’re not so sure.)
