Hunh. We didn’t think Miss Allison had it in her.
That probably seems like an odd thing to say in response to a pretty, but unchallenging dress. But we’re impressed at how finely she’s threading the awards season style needle, given that this is her first time at the rodeo, so to speak. Jessica Chastain, who’s seen the inside of an Oscars campaign or two, was at the same event, screening Molly’s Game and demonstrating the kind of seasoned style eye that landed her there in a sober but photogenic Ralph Lauren jumpsuit. As we noted, for a serious screening like this, absent any glamour or high red carpetry, an awards-hungry star has to show up in something professional and low-key, but well-rendered and photogenic. Show up sloppy and you look like you don’t care. Show up dressed to the nines and you look like you’re full of yourself. Show up like you work in the museum’s front office and have to give a presentation to the board today and you’ve landed at the exact style spot. Well done, lady.
It’s a really nice dress. Just enough visual interest to make for good pictures, but with a demure and even humble undertone. Our only critique is with the footwear. Black leather pumps can look a bit too serious. Dark gray suede ones would’ve been our rec.
