This is how you know when someone has reached Olympic-level status in the red carpet game: She dresses for the scrolldown.
So many truly memorable modern red carpet moments are all about provoking a reaction of increasing intensity as you scroll down your phone screen or your monitor screen or your tablet screen – because that’s how everyone who sees this look will see it. We’re not sure how well articulated this particular tactic is among stylists and celebrities, but most of the real red carpet A-listers – the ones who can guarantee coverage because of the style choices they make and how well they pull them off – the scrolldown effect is real. And this girl just aced it.
In truth, we struggle with a lot of this, mainly because the color story – clashing greens, orange and coral – is hard to reconcile. And while the pants are dramatic as hell, they also come with a goofy crotch and a hellacious rise on them. We give this look A+ marks for being high impact, high fashion and photogenic, but we would not recommend anyone try this look at home. It’s designed to get fawning coverage among the fashion press and it has already accomplished that, but we don’t recommend you saunter into the office in this ensemble.
