On the one hand, this is all pretty damn fabulous:
On the other hand, we’re a little disappointed.
First, the good parts: Well, all of it, really. Love the boots, love the skirt, love the puffy-sleeved, broad-shouldered top. But we’re disappointed for two reasons. First, because denim-on-denim is a dicey style proposition 99% of the time. When you opt for denim-on-denim-on-denim, you’re really living life on the edge. In other words, that’s a whole hell of a lot of stiff denim for one look.
But to be honest, that complaint’s kind of minor and rote on our parts. That’s not our real issue here. Miss Ri made a name for herself among the fashion elite because she has really good style skills and knows how to put looks together; especially hi-lo looks, which are, in our opinion, the ultimate test of one’s fashion bona fides. If you can pair a Hanes t-shirt with a piece of couture and make something new out of it, you’re winning the style game. If you pull your entire ensemble right off the runway, all from the same collection, you tend to look like a bit of a wannabe.
We love you, Ri and this look is pretty great on its own terms, but don’t be a wannabe, girl. Mix it up. Those boots deserve some space to breath and that top would look killer-sick with a pair of high-waisted tight pants.
