Kerry Washington, recipient of the Lord & Taylor Fashion Oracle Award, at the 2017 Night of Stars Modern Voices Gala in New York.
Kittens, it’s been one of those days where everything behind the scenes at T Lo International Independent Bitchery LLC went up in flames and we both ran around like shrieking, bitchy, chickens trying to put each of the fires out.
We’re cranky af, is what we’re trying to say here.
And subsequently we cannot bring ourselves to love this in any way. We tried. We really did. We’re not the kinds of fashion queens who don’t get Mugler. In theory, this should all work like crazy. But that look book shot sure does seem to indicate this one’s an FMO (For Models Only). Even then, the shape of the skirt and the blocking combine for a weirdly unflattering effect.
On Miss Kerry, the look is not helped by her new do, which happens to look pretty fabulous on its own. But it’s got a bluntness that simply doesn’t play well with a dress this boldly declarative and focus-pulling. She really does come off looking kind of comic-booky. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing on Halloween weekend, but we don’t think her intent was to actually cosplay for this event.
We will step back from this one (after having plenty to say about it, that is) and let you have the final call:
