We have the utmost sympathy for any actress whose name got caught up in the Harvey Weinstein scandal this week – especially if she has promotional obligations to make.
But Miss Jennifer doesn’t at the moment, which makes her choice to come out for the premiere of a French art documentary in a wedding gown a notable one, under the circumstances. Granted, it is those very circumstances which help make this clear and obvious wedding gown come off like a different sort of statement.
“I’m standing tall, I’m untouched by any of this, and I am, at the end of the day, an artist who supports other artists.”
Sure, no one really picks a dress thinking of any message with that level of articulateness, but even so, there’s very much a sense that some sort of statement is being made here about her intention to move on from the story of the week.
And it’s really the only point of view that allows us to accept her wearing a wedding gown on a red carpet. Because come on. There’s no way to style this as simply a white dress. It screams “bride.”
