Once again, because this event occurred right as the women in Hollywood were setting off cultural bombs that have yet to stop exploding outward, we’re going to run quickly past the fashion on display and let the woman speak for herself, in this case. Kristen Stewart and Reese Witherspoon took the opportunity of this event to speak some painful and infuriating truths. Miss Jennifer did the same.
Okay, so it’s kind of nothing more than a depressed nightgown. Even so, this is probably one of the least egregious instances of her fulfilling her Dior contractual obligations in some time. It’s bleh, but it’s not a disaster. When it comes to J Law and Dior, that’s gotta be considered a win.
She took the opportunity to discuss her own experiences with dehumanizing, exploitative and damaging behavior in the industry:
“One girl before me had already been fired for not losing enough weight fast enough,” the actress said. “And, during this time, a female producer had me do a nude lineup with about five women who were much, much thinner than me. And we all stood side-by-side with only paste-ons covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating lineup, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.”
“I asked to speak to a producer about the unrealistic diet regime and he responded by telling me he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat, he thought I was perfectly ‘fuckable.”
“I let myself be treated a certain way because I felt like I had to for my career. I was young and walking that fine line of sticking up for myself without being called difficult, which they did call me, but I believe the word they used was “nightmare.”
