InStyle Awards 2017 Red Carpet Rundown

Posted on October 24, 2017

Angela Sarafyan in Georges Chakra Couture

It’s not going to win any design awards and probably won’t show up on any year-end lists, but it’s chic in a fairly basic way and the bodice has a little visual interest. Faint praise, to be sure, but we mostly like this. An up do might’ve been a better choice, though.

Bella Heathcote in Rosie Assoulin

We don’t much like the shape or the print, which looks a little bedsheet-y. The shoes are an abomination, of course.

Connie Briton

Oh Jesus, Lady. We were just about to ding you for picking a boring dress and then we got to the horrifying fringe at the bottom. This is all one big NO. There are only a few styles that can handle major fringe and a standard wedding reception dress is never one of them.

Demi Lovato in Alice + Olivia

We’d really love this if the color wasn’t so mumsy and the shoes weren’t so distracting.

January Jones

We’re over the pajama thing until someone manages to make it look interesting. Sorry, January.

Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra Couture

Girl, no. Keep the boots and lose that ridiculous dress.

Lauren Cohan in Mary Katrantzou

It’s interesting, we’ll give it that. It’s also more than a bit overdesigned. We don’t think we can ever really love that sound wave running down the front, but it’s not the worst part of this dress. That honor is reserved either for the sheer patches or the beaded fringe hanging off the sleeves.

Selena Gomez in Jacquemus

Her makeup looks great, but nothing else she’s got going on belongs at an event celebrating style. It’s all basic, borderline generic.
