Whoopi Goldberg Reaches the Pinnacle of Whoopi-Style

Posted on September 07, 2017

Whoopi Goldberg arrives at the  Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion: Thom Browne Luncheon in New York.

This is where we’ve come to, Whoopi?

Sigh. You did it, girl. You did THAT.

And the frustrating part is, we’ll have to mark this one down as one of her better style choices in some time. What can we say? The Humanities Professor drag she usually totes herself around in is not to our preferences vis-à-vis highly paid TV hostesses, shall we say. With a haughty sniff. And Thom Browne is a T Lo fave, even if this particular … thing she’s wearing is pretty challenging.

But it’s also very her, in a lot of ways – as you can tell by her beaming and posing. In her three-decade career, almost every time you put her in a high-fashion situation (save one or two Oscar nights), she opted for something clown-y, ironic, or way too self-consciously quirky. She really hit the Whoopi Style Trifecta with this getup.

But in all fairness, we truly love the head wrap and the booties. We get that neither she nor Thom Browne were ever going to situate a conventionally stylish piece in between those two, but “Clown College Graduation Robe” is a bit much for us.
