Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe attend the premiere of “Outlander” Season Three in New York City.
You know how you can tell when a genre or period series becomes a bona fide hit?
When the leads start dressing as far away from their characters as humanly possible for red carpet events. No Claire and Jamie drag to be found here, kittens.
We admit it took us a bit to come around on this look. Velvet suits are great. Velvet suits with jogging bras are decidedly less so. And while we’re at it, we may as well point out that we don’t love that greige-y color or the length on the jacket.
But as a bit of PR and “I’m not just Claire” branding, it works pretty well. She looks hot, the hair looks great, and there’s no denying the impact.
Hmph. Ya girl did extra crunches and eschewed liquids for several hours so she could wear that outfit, Mister. You couldn’t put on a collared shirt? The hair situation has improved tremendously, though. Good for him. It seems to us that he’s got fine hair and a high forehead, which tends to make for some styling issues when you’re not dressed like an 18th Century highlander. Personally, we think he’d be better brushing it down and forward instead of up and off his face, but this is still a lot better than the ladyhair he was sporting in previous red carpet cycles.
Also, that jacket photographs terribly. A guy with his coloring needs some rich hues in his style choices.
Alright, fangurls. We have blasphemed. COME AT US.
It’s okay, we have our blogger armor on.
