Emmy Awards 2017: Lena Waithe Bested Every Man at WERQing a Tux

Posted on September 18, 2017

Lena Waithe, winner of Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for “Master of None” and the first black woman to win for writing in a comedy series.

We don’t normally highlight the winners of writing awards, but Lena’s so fantastic in Master of None, her acceptance speech was so glorious, and THIS:

… was absolutely FLAWLESS.

What we love about this is how well-tailored it is. She didn’t quite go for a feminine cut, but she didn’t just put on a man’s suit and call it good. It’s fitted to her body, but not in a “cinched waist/tight hips/boobs out” kind of way. So many queer women who dress butch for the red carpet (Ellens DeGeneres and Page come to mind first) just look like they’re wearing over-sized suits. This cut and fit tells you that this suit is hers alone.

Also: the jacket is to-die-for and the hair is just amazing. We have a new definition for Butch Glam and her name is Lena.
