Emmy Awards 2017 Trend Watch: Silver Belles

Posted on September 18, 2017

To our surprise, the big shimmer trend on the Emmys RC this year wasn’t rose-gold, even though everyone keeps telling us it’s the hottest trend since ever. We have to say, we’re pleasantly surprised to see so much shimmery, diamond-esque silver going on. It’s always a favorite, but tends to take a backseat to gold metallics at most awards shows. Not this time, though. This time, it was silver’s time to shine.

Anna Chlumsky in Sachin & Babi

It’s probably one of the best things she’s ever worn on the red carpet, but we’re not loving the disconnect between the bodice and the skirt. It works, just barely.

Ariel Winter in Steven Khalil

Of course.

All things considered (Like: Ariel Winter), it’s not a bad look at all. The slits are way overdone, but if that’s the worse we can say about it, it’s a pretty decent effort on her part.

Jessica Biel in Ralph & Russo Couture

Fine. We BEGRUDGINGLY admit that Oatbiel snagged herself a pretty interesting gown. We don’t love it, but it’s working for her. Not feeling the Elvis hair at all.

Laverne Cox in Naeem Khan

SLAY, mama. It’s a gorgeous gown and we’re loving how polished her looks have become, but the slicked-back ombre hair was a not a thing we loved.

Madeline Brewer in Berta

Very ice princess, but low-key lovely, if a little standard.

Priyanka Chopra in Balmain

It took a while for us to come around on this one, but when she walked out on stage, it looked amazing on her. Yes, it’s fuzzy and perhaps slightly over-designed, but she slayed in it.

Regina King in Galia Lahav Couture

Last night was not a night for prints, so it was nice that one of the few that we saw happened to be pretty fabulous. We’re only so-so on the dress, but the fabric is gorgeous.

Susan Kelechi Watson in Cristina Ottaviano

An overdesigned top half with an unresolved bottom half. But she’s making it work, so long as we don’t scroll down.

Tracee Ellis Ross in Chanel Couture

Drag Mrs. Santa Claus.

We don’t love it, but that description seems so perfect for her that we’re starting to come around. Still: the feathers. There were just way too many of them on the red carpet last night.

Uzo Aduba in Sally LaPointe

Low-key but pretty. Although there’s nothing low-key about that hair, which she’s working like a champ.
