Mindy Kaling attends the “The Mindy Project” Costume Exhibit, in Los Angeles.
Considering the desolate, apocalyptic landscape that is celebrity style during the month of August, we should be very grateful to Miss Mindy for turning herself out in a notable D&G look for us this week. Except, for reasons that might become obvious once you scroll down, we can’t oh-honey-no this look hard enough.
Oh, honey. No.
There is no one agreed-upon rule for how matchy your accessories should be. It trends back and forth all the time. We tend to come down on the side of the question that considers thoughtful and creative color-pairing to be a much more sophisticated look than strictly matching your shoes and bag to your outfit. Which isn’t to say we don’t ever appreciate a well-matched look; especially if it’s tone-on-tone, which is – again, in our opinion – the more sophisticated way to match accessories.
Even Barbie wouldn’t sport a matching print in shoes and dress. That is just incredibly silly-looking to us. Add the equally matchy bag and we’re struck by how a relatively grownup dress has been effectively turned into a perfect outfit for a 6-year-old.
Three great pieces, utilized in the worst possible way: by putting them all together at once. Each of these items deserved better.
