Lake Bell’s Brainy Lady Style at the “Home Again” Los Angeles Premiere

Posted on August 30, 2017

You know how you form opinions about famous people, irrespective of any solid evidence for them? We all just basically decide who a celebrity is and then react to them based on those assumptions.

We bring this up because we don’t know Lake Bell and we’re not even sure we’ve seen much of her work, but somewhere along the line we decided she was an interesting if intimidatingly smart intellectual type. We have absolutely no idea if that’s accurate, but it’s the persona we inadvertently settled on.

It’s the hair, isn’t it? Or maybe it’s the low-key makeup – although frankly, we’d be pretty embarrassed if we found out we’d been quietly attributing I.Q. points based on how much makeup one is wearing. In the end, we suppose it’s a combination of her somewhat serious affect, somewhat stereotypical “brainy girl” hair, her preference for indie films – and yes, the way she dresses. Not that we’d call the above look “intellectual” in any way, shape or form. But it’s interesting, striking, and slightly off the beaten path. The more we look at it, the more we like it.

Her accessories, on the other hand, do not speak of genius. They’re not terrible, and we don’t normally have much of a problem with pop-of-color accessorizing, but both the shoes and the clutch are too focus pulling. She’d have been better off with dark green pumps and a bright yellow clutch.
