You heard us. Pink LADY sweater and clutch. Excuse us, minaudière.
And we have to admit, we’re really torn up about it.
On the one hand, we want to applaud his non-binary thinking vis a vis his fashion choices, not to mention his boldness in carrying them out in such a public, attention-seeking way. On the other hand… damn, do we hate that sweater and clutch. We just can’t imagine having access to any bit o’ Chanel you could want (he’s done print campaigns for them) and picking something that looks like the kind of sweater you buy in July from a clearance pile in a discount retailer. Nothing wrong with a good, comfy pink sweater in theory, but we’d expect more from something with a Chanel label stitched inside. And the minaudière looks like a giant eyeglass case. Plus, we find it hard sometimes to get on board with his studied and curated casualness for events like Paris couture shows or the Met Gala.
Taken on its own terms and removing most context from it, there’s a lot about the outfit to like. It’s fun, bright, colorful and pushes boundaries quietly. But the kicks look like the most expensive part of the ensemble and that’s got to be seen as a bad thing when you’re wearing Chanel and heading into their couture show to sit front row.
