We will not be the ones to lead this study, but some day, someone’s going to prove – with charts and diagrams and science – that all ladystars who know they’ll be doing a promotional tour with Nicole Kidman step up their style game. Every celeb gal knows, if you’re gonna stand next to Miss Nicole, you better come correct.

Although, granted; you might not be able to tell from everyone in these shots. Shall we assess?

Rhetorical question, of course.

Gwendoline Christie

Miss Gwendoline’s been on a menswear kick lately. Normally, we’re pretty supportive of such things, but she has an odd tendency to choose really tacky-looking menswear; shiny, big, ill-fitted and often in not-great colors. This isn’t the worst of the lot, but it’s more of the same. We reiterate what we’ve said the last few times we’ve featured her: she should be looking into more fitted suits. To that we can add that she should keep an eye out for more subtle, high-end textiles.

This is great; full stop. We might quibble about the colors, which might not be the best for her – especially that green. But she takes well to this sort of retro-’80s secretarial take, which is ironic, given her resume. It looks like something her former co-star Christina Hendricks would wear if given the chance, but we’re glad she got to it first. It’s photogenic and stylish, and she looks fairly comfortable in it.

Alice Englert

She’s Australian.

To be fair, we’d have considered this a fairly chic look if she’d finished it off with a killer pair of shoes, which seems to us to have been the intention, if not exactly the result. Those things look like something you win at a carnival.

And then there’s Miss Nicole herself, who’s up to her usual tricks, we’re afraid. She doesn’t look bad, but this ruffled, neutral-toned, retro-to-the-point-of-costumey thing that she loves so much? We don’t love so much. That weird neckline/yoke situation is made all the worse by the fact that it’s rendered in the color of her skin. Lady. Stop with the skin dresses. They’re not your friends.

Still looks amazing.
