Kittens, we have always loved costume design ourselves, which should be fairly obvious by the roughly ten million words we’ve written on the topic over the years. But there’s a special place in our hearts for the people who design costumes not for films or television or the stage, but for pure self-expression; a passion for the characters they’re paying tribute to as well as for the techniques and tricks required to make them come alive. Cosplayers do it out of love, which makes all the difference in the world.
We love a good recreation of a character’s basic look, but when cosplayers start getting a bit more fanciful about it, or take the original character as a leaping-off point for further creativity; that’s when it truly becomes magical. Example: the BB-8 in this list made us laugh and clap. Clever – and also profoundly personalized.
