Comic-Con 2017: “Thor: Ragnarok” Panel and Q+A Session, Trailer & Poster – And LOTS of Opinions on All of It

Posted on July 24, 2017

Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo and  Cate Blanchett at the “Thor: Ragnarok” Panel and Q+A Session during Comic-Con 2017 in San Diego, California.

Darlings, the way we see it, our job, on a Monday, is to light a fire under your collective ass so you can get out the door and get through your day by providing you five-minute distractions throughout it. So, after the pop culture bomb known as Comic-Con went off over the weekend, we have one thing to say.

We’ve got a lot of ground to cover today. So let’s jump in. You saw the eye-popping poster, now let the trailer kickstart your Monday and super-charge whatever form of caffeine you’re ingesting.

That just looks like crazy damn fun; as if some old Rush and ELO album covers spawned and made a movie. Director Taika Waititi managed to do something almost no one has: he made the third installment in a film series the freshest, most energized of the three, seemingly by ignoring most of the tone and style established in the first two.

We’re gonna be making our way through a great deal of this weekend’s panels and announcements today, but fashion commentary will likely be brief and dismissive. It’s Comic-Con, after all. Even the Mighty Cate took things a bit easy for the occasion.

Cate Blanchett in Monse

Granted, she still showed up in eye-catching, photogenic, high fashion, but that’s because she’s the Mighty Cate and she practically lives and breathes that stuff. But she kept things comfy and casual, with some touches of bright color and glitter, as befits the setting. She manages to look chic and fun. Love the footwear.

Chris Hemsworth

Little else need be said. Mister looks damn hot and yet still put-together and clearly a movie star.

Jeff Goldblum

The Goldblum is sui generis, and we can never do anything but applaud and support the man’s increasing commitment to high style as he ages. He dresses better now than at any other time of his career – and he was ALWAYS a sharp dresser. Having said that, his somewhat idiosyncratic take on proportions in menswear doesn’t always serve him well. The high-waisted skinny pant and curiously tiny moto combine oddly on his frame.

Karl Urban

Low effort. Would still do.

Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo.

That is both his name and an assessment of his style choices.

Tessa Thompson

Miss Lady’s having herself a career year, between this film and Westworld. She’s clearly taking the spotlight by the horns (to miz our metaphors really badly) by dressing for attention, but this may be just a skosh too much for the venue. Looking forward to seeing her and Cate tear it up on the red carpet, though.

Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston has worn this same outfit every single day since he broke up with Taylor Swift. True fact.

LIVING for Hemsworth’s sassy leg action.

Hiddleston with those damn grey suede boots again. He must own about 5 thousand pairs.
