Michael Keaton and Robert Downey Jr. at the at the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” Los Angeles Premiere

And now, let’s check in on Mr. Casual and Mr. Semi-Casual Mess.

Michael Keaton

Mikey, we’re here to tell you: The “divorced Dad hitting the dating scene 6 months after he joined a gym” look has paid off well for you in many promotional situations. We support it. We even like this look. But you’re operating in a very narrow and specific style range (we’ve seen this exact look about a dozen times this month) and you’re so wedded to it that you’re kind of underdressed for this premiere.

Actually? We’re okay with all of this. Shocking, we know; given how much we tend to find ourselves typing the word “asshole” whenever we assess his style choices. But going an unconventional menswear route was always the clear and obvious choice with him. Our problem was always with his tendency to favor very conventional, very expensive suiting and then deliberately wear it sloppy (he hit a red carpet with his fly down once – and we never considered it anything but intentional) and pair it with sneakers only suitable for boys under 18 years of age. This all works really well and he looks pretty comfortable. We still can’t deal with the rose-colored glasses and the mega-obvious lifts in his wedge-heeled boots, but he’s doing alright.
