In August, Schumer told Howard Stern that the 2016 Met Gala “felt like a punishment” rather than a privilege. “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation…I don’t like the farce,” Vogue’s July cover model explained. “We’re dressed up like a bunch of f–king a–holes.“
“I have no interest in fashion,” the Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo author said. “I don’t care.” Schumer, who wore a custom Alexander Wang gown, explained that she didn’t see the point in pretending she was having good time, either. “I left earlier than I should have been allowed… I got to meet Beyoncé and she was like, ‘Is this your first Met Gala?’ and I was like, ‘It’s my last!’”
“…unless I have a movie coming out around the same time!” We see you, Amy Schumer.
We have no doubt she has some sort of excuse or explanation for why she’s returning to an event she trashed so thoroughly just a year ago, but we have decided to pre-emptively not buy it. We kind of hope no one spoke to her last night – or if they did, we hope everyone started every conversation with “I hope I’m not one of the people you think are fucking assholes here! Haha!”
As with our points made about Lena Dunham, we don’t care at all that she hated it and had a bad time. It’s certainly not the kind of party for everyone. But if you badmouth the party and the attendees, and declare that you have no interest in the ostensible reason for the party, you look pretty dumb coming back for more the very next year.
Or at the very least, trash Zac Posen for putting you in a patent leather dress in May. We’ll cheer you on for that one, girl.
