Translating the Trends for Spring/Summer 2017: Bare Your Shoulders, Darling!

Posted on May 16, 2017

What? Did you think the “cold shoulder” trend was fading? Kittens, the fashion world was just getting warmed up with that one. You know how that crowd gets. Once they get an idea into their heads, they all have to explore every last iteration of it. Which means the runways of the SS17 collections were stocked to the rafters with ladies showing off their delts.

1) Alexander Wang | Altuzarra | Balmain | Blumarine | Brock Collection | CG | Chloé | Christian Dior | Christian Siriano
2) David Koma | Delpozo | Dolce&Gabbana | Erdem | Giambattistaa Valli | Gucci | Hellessy | House of Holland | Jason Wu
3) Marchesa | Monique Lhuillier | Monse | Peter Pilotto | Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini | Ports 1961 | Prabal Gurung | Preen
4) Rodarte | Saint Laurent | Self-Portrait | Temperley London | Tibi | Tome | Versace | Vetements | Zimmermann

But instead of just another season of shoulder cutouts, the fashion world is once again embracing one-shoulder and off-the-shoulder looks. From Wilma Flintstone to Flashdance, it’s a classic that’s back on trend. Lo, ever service-minded, worked diligently to ensure that you had tons of stylish options in a range of styles and price points to choose from, should you decide you simply must get back on board the shoulder train.

Let’s go shopping! First up:

SHOULDER-BARING DRESSES (and rompers and jumpsuits)

As you can see, Lorenzo went wild once again. It’s difficult for him to pick a favorite, since they’re all his favorites by virtue of being picked at all, but he’s partial to a lot of the frillier, girlier, more romantic takes, like the Pete Pilotto, the ASOS options, the gingham House of Holland, and pretty much everything from Neiman Marcus (but darling, that practically goes without saying).

But if you’d rather keep things more casual or just don’t feel like adding another dress (or any, for that matter) to your wardrobe, Lo hooked you up with a range of sweet…

What a feeling! She’s a maniac!

Sorry, had to have a little Flashdance moment there. And you can too, if you’re liking some of the one-shoulder options above. Lorenzo loves that there’s a wide range of styles here, even though they all fall under the same current trend. He loves the Malandrino, the Parker, the Self Portrait, Michael Kors, ASOS – pretty much all of them, actually.

So, dolls. Feel like being naughty and exposing your shoulders to the world in a shocking and risque sort of way? Of course you do.
