It’s a sad commentary on the state of things when the phrase “Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton” comes with the cringes built into it. Her “relationship” with the brand hasn’t been an entirely beneficial one. We’re sure it helped beef up her retirement account, but it hasn’t exactly set her image on fire, since the output of the house of LV is a bit dicey as of late, which means she’s been stuck in a whole lot of awkward-looking frocks.

Admittedly, there’s more to like than dislike here. The print’s not exactly pretty, but it is interesting; a sort of “floral camo,” which sounds horrible on paper but sort of works. As for the shape, we figure you can have tricky sleeves or a stiff, bell-like shape, but trying to work both in the same mini-dress is asking a lot. We have a natural tendency to recoil from Lucite heels, but they’re a pleasant bit of playfulness when she turns around. This is a pretty decent turnout for her and the brand.

Newp. It’s too heavy and WAY too ’80s upholstery-like. The panels don’t so much play with each other as they do struggle for dominance over each other. The colors look dreary in sunlight. The cape thing is weird. The top half is ill-fitted and the bottom half hangs off her like a banner. We would’ve thought a lot of these issues would become apparent the minute anyone even considered embellishing velvet with crystals, but we suppose once the idea popped up, no one could be talked out of it. Well, here you go, fashion world. A cautionary tale. Don’t hang a million crystals off 25 pounds of velvet. Write it down, please.
