Cannes 2017 Style File: Jessica Chastain Goes Offbeat in Dior Couture and Givenchy Couture

Posted on May 22, 2017

Miss Jessica has been very busy, wearing a lot of dresses and going to a lot of red carpet events at Cannes.  We salute you, Miss Jessica. But we’re still going to judge you. Especially since we appear to have reached the slightly odd portion of your planned wardrobe for this week.

We love the idea of a coat on the red carpet – especially a coat with a nipped waist and full skirt that can serve as a dress for a ladystar on a chilly red carpet. This should work for us, but we’re just not loving the sheer skirt peeking out and the deployment of sandals. They both tend to work against the idea of the coat. This would be a time for neutral pumps at the very least. Also, we think that coat is in desperate need of a belt.

She clearly knows what to do with a skirt made of giant tassels. Our question to you is this: Should a skirt made of giant tassels even exist? Is that right, we ask you?  Is that just? Especially when said giant tassels are attached in the weirdest way, making her look like furniture, and at a weird spot, cutting her lower body in half and making her top two thirds look like a busty dress form. It’s just a weird damn dress. She seems to love it, though. Maybe she only saw herself in the mirror from the bust up, because that’s all looking gangbusters, if a little snug.
