Katy Perry clearly had no idea how to dress for a BAG CELEBRATION. It’s not remotely surprising to us that Miss Kiernan nailed it on the first try.
We’ve been thinking this a lot lately and we’ve decided we’re going to continually look for ways to hammer the point home in that obnoxiously persistent T Lo style: Lady stars really should get into the habit of wearing jeans more on the red carpet. We tend not to be the types to argue in favor of the creeping casualness that has overtaken modern style, but that’s kind of the point. As Kiki’s ably demonstrating here, jeans for women don’t have to be casual. Men can pair expensive dress shirts and dress shoes with jeans but it can get a little stuffy looking. Women have much better options to style them up in a semi-dressy way; options like pairing them with a really pretty Chanel top. Only a few celebrity red carpet events truly require more formal choices (mainly big-budget or Oscar-bait movie premieres and awards ceremonies, plus the Met Gala). We call on the ladystar community to take a page from Kiki’s book and snag yourself some free designer jeans in the process. ESPECIALLY those ladystars (looking at you, Lena Dunham) who tend to resent the artifice and high drag of a lot of modern red carpetry. Jeans, cute shoes and a killer, expensive, loaned designer top would do most celebugals right in a good number of red carpet situations
Having said that, these don’t look like the greatest jeans in the world. They’re okay, but the shape is a little “slacks”-y.
