Daisy Ridley Gets it Just Right, in Stella McCartney at “Star Wars” Celebration

Posted on April 17, 2017

Daisy Ridley attends the “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” Panel during the 2017 Star Wars Celebration at Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

This is pretty much exactly as it should be, as far as we’re concerned:

Now, hold on. We can hear your harrumphing from here. Strictly speaking, from a style perspective, we’d say this look has a couple of issues. The cuff situation is not only weird, it’s kind of dumb. And while we wouldn’t necessarily call it a sin, matching the skirt to the shoes isn’t a thing we’re inclined to be nice about it.

But as stagewear, as promotional material for her and the project she’s promoting; as a way of standing out on a stage full of mostly blandly dressed men, it really couldn’t be much better. Even the shoes work. There’s a simple boldness to the look, almost like a cartoon come to life, that suits the venue flawlessly.

But we’re afraid we have once complaint. Shocking, we know. It’s the hair. We know that tight little sloppy bun is kind of her thing – and kind of her character’s thing – but it really doesn’t go with this kind of dress.
