Cate Blanchett attends the premiere of “Manifesto” during the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
Darlings, we got so excited at the prospect of Miss Cate wearing Valentino at the Tribeca Film Festival. Nothing against most of the other attendees, but the fashion at this thing has been spotty and underwhelming, for the most part. Not that anyone dressed badly or inappropriately; just that there wasn’t much of interest to look at from the perspective of two bitchy fashion bloggers such as we.
Enter Cate, bringing the excitement with her:
The excitement, you guys. We’re not feeling it. Why are we not feeling it? Have we become jaded? Has fashion lost its luster and excitement for us? Have we built up fashion callouses? Are we unable to appreciate the fabulous and fierce anymore? This is frightening and it’s causing us to search our souls.
Oh, wait. It’s a muumuu with pink pleats and a clerical collar. Of course we’re not feeling it.
Credit once again to her for picking something off the beaten style path. We don’t hate it, but we don’t love it either. It’s just really hard not to see this as some sort of formal loungewear. Maybe if the print wasn’t so busy and the pink wasn’t so … pink, we could get behind this, but it’s hard to picture without those elements. And the addition of business-like black pumps to this looks really odd to our eyes.
