Fresh from refusing to clap for Oscar winners they find skeevy and from desperately trying to do image cleanup after the worst public celebrity affair in at least a decade, Brie and Tom opted for dressing up impeccably and smiling pretty for the cameras.
Personally, we think the film looks pretty stupid, but we very much appreciate the stars’ commitment to selling it through their style choices. In fact, they both look pretty much perfect. For once, we have no critiques. What we have instead are observations, which we will now spew randomly at you.
The trend in menswear is low-contrast, right now. That means an avoidance of white shirts and pattern, and an embrace of tone-on-tone. We tend to find the results dull more often than not, but Tom’s version here is working pretty well for him. That’s too much blue to our eyes, but we appreciate the brightly patterned pocket square.
Her dress is gorgeous. First, the plunging neckline, which we’ve spent a lot of time railing against in the past year, is perfectly proportioned for the look, balanced out by strong shoulders and full-length sleeves. And while Lorenzo hates tiered skirts, we both really like this one for tiered pleats instead of tiered ruffles. The print is rather elegant and low-key, but we wonder if there isn’t perhaps a bit of visual imbalance between the busier top and the mostly-white skirt.
