“The Handmaid’s Tale” on Hulu

Posted on March 23, 2017

Hulu released the trailer for their adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s haunting 1985 classic dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale, which will drop all its episodes on April 26th.

Starring Mad Men’s Elizabeth Moss and co-starring The Leftover’s Ann Dowd, Gilmore Girls’ Alexis Bledel and Orange is the New Black’s Samira Wiley (which is a hell of a lineup, when you put it that way), The Handmaid’s Tale, whether Hulu intended it or not, is going to be seen as a lightning rod for every political hot take the internet can wrangle up. Bet on it. A dystopian future in which women are stripped of their basic rights and made to bear children for the good of the State is a story that’s designed to push a lot of buttons. And right now, everyone’s walking around with a whole lot of big, red buttons to push. The thinkpieces will be fast and thick. And truth be told, we can’t promise we won’t contribute to their number ourselves. Regardless, this looks like an amazing project and we can’t wait to see the whole thing.
