Pop Style Opinionfest: Trolls, Beasts, Fashion Trends, and TV Shows We Sort of Like

Posted on March 21, 2017

Kittens, once again, we simply flipped on our mics and spewed our opinions on any topic that caught our eyes for more than five minutes. We’re ALL over the pop culture and fashion maps with this week’s podcast. Think of it like flipping through People magazine on your lunchbreak with your favorite bitchy co-workers.

First, we have a few, slightly controversial (possibly) things to say about the so-called “gay moment” in Disney’s new live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast and the totally unsurprisingly bigoted reactions to it from the expected quarters. We’re kind of unimpressed with everyone in this instance.

Then, we talk a bit about the announcement of Chloe’s Clare Waight Keller as the new creative director at Givenchy, making it the third major longstanding house to name a woman to the top creative spot in recent years. Here’s hoping for a new direction that feels more like the Givenchy brand and less like the Kardashians.

After that, we dig into the Listener Mailbag, where Hope asks, “T Lo, how is it that a bunch of designers will all settle on the same trends in the same season?” An excellent question, Hope! We give our usual long-winded answer.

Moving on from the world of fashion, we touch briefly on the Reddit-fueled controversy surrounding Amy Schumer’s new comedy special “The Leather Special,” her not-very-good response to it, and the somewhat sticky fact that, her protestations and the organized campaign against her aside, it really isn’t a very good special.

And finally, we move into the exciting and bold new world of television by talking about the sudden rise in quality surrounding RuPaul’s Drag Race season 9 (including the all-star lineup of judges). After that, it’s capsule reviews of a bunch of shows we don’t love enough to review here: Humans, Homeland, The Americans, The Flash, Arrow, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Whew! It’s all there, darlings! Every last bit of opinions we could wring out of the last week, served up on a platter (not really).
